Chin Augmentation / Chin Implant

Achieve a more balanced chin.

RECOVERY TIME: 1 week

The shape of the chin plays a large role in facial harmony. A weak or regressed chin may make the nose or forehead appear prominent or disharmonious with the rest of the face. By correcting the size of the chin with the respect to the nose, one can achieve a well-defined jawline and create a more attractive facial profile.

Chin augmentation is a procedure to improve the projection of the chin and the contour of the jawline. This can be done surgically by placing a personalized silicone implant or non-surgically in our office by injecting a hyaluronic acid gel filler.

PROCEDURE

Chin Augmentation / Implant patient
Surgical Chin Augmentation

Surgical chin augmentation takes place under general anesthesia in our operating room. A small incision, approximately 1cm in length, is made in a discrete area at the base of the chin. Dr. Yoo carefully selects and places a silicone implant, customized to each patient’s facial shape. The implant is then sutured directly on top of the chin bone. Once healed, the implant blends seamlessly with the jawline. Patients with excessive fullness at the bottom of the chin near the neck may choose to have liposuction as well. The combination of liposuction and chin augmentation will highlight the contours of one's jawline. The approximate recovery time is 2 weeks, after which patient's typically feel well enough to return to work. Patients can expect their final results about 6 to 12 months from their surgery.

Non-surgical Chin Augmentation

Non-surgical chin augmentation (aka Chin Filler) is performed in the office setting under topical anesthesia. Hyaluronic acid gel fillers is a safe alternative treatment for chin augmentation. After a facial evaluation and discussion of goals, the patient is cleaned off and numbed. Filler is strategically placed over the chin bone to enhance the projection of the chin. This is a temporary option lasting up to 12-24 months depending on the type of filler used for treatment. Chin filler is great for those who would like to improve their jawline contour but are not ready for surgical chin augmentation. For more information about our fillers, please refer to the Fillers Tab.
