BUCCAL FAT PAD REMOVAL

Buccal fat pad removal is a surgical procedure to remove the fat pads in the cheeks. This procedure is ideal for patients who have excess fat in the lower part of their cheeks, causing a rounded face or “chipmunk cheeks.” Having prominent buccal fat pads can adversely affect one's facial harmony. Once the excess fat is removed, patients may notice a slimmer face with more defined and accentuated cheekbones

Procedure

Buccal fat pad removal is performed under general anesthesia in our operating room. A small incision is made inside the mouth and the fat pad is carefully removed. The incisions are gently closed using dissolvable stitches. Buccal fat pad removal is a quick procedure that lasts 1-1.5 hours. External incisions on the face are not needed and there is minimal recovery time compared to other surgical procedures. The typical recovery time for buccal fat removal is approximately 2 weeks for the majority of patients and the results are permanent. Some degree of swelling may persist for 3-6 months after surgery, but this should not impact one's social activities.
