Orbital septum

\ ˈȯr-bə-tᵊl ˈsep-təm \

It is a thin sheet of fibrous tissue found in both the upper and lower eyelid. In the upper eyelid it is attached to a tendon called the levator palpabrae superioris, while in the lower eyelid it is attached to the tarsal plate. It helps separate the infra-orbital fat and also acts as a barrier to stop infection spreading into the eye.
